Product Description
The Octave Mandolin 800 (OM-800) is tuned one octave lower than a standard mandolin. The Gold Tone OM-800 includes low action and a thin neck for rapid playing. The curly maple back and sides help promote a punchy tone and the arched solid spruce top increases sustain and volume. Now offered with a compound radius fingerboard and extended scale length, this instrument is amazing playable and will serve as an alternative to the mandolin sound.Gold Tone OM-800+ Octave Mandolin (Mahogany) Review
I pretty much knew this was the octave mando I wanted since it seems to be the best combination of affordability and good sound, but I was really skeptical at first about ordering an instrument online. The nice thing is that it comes with a great case and they ship it in that case. Right out of the box I had to just tune it up, and then there was some buzzing on some frets... but I realized I just had to turn the knobs on the bridge to raise it more and then it played beautifully. I have had it for exactly one month today and have already gigged with it a bunch of times and it's gone wonderfully. Compared to a normal mando, you will notice how loud the natural sound of this instrument is. And, very unlike a normal mando, this OM has sustain that goes on for years. And finally if your into incorporating harmonics, the harmonics on this thing are super loud and pretty.Get a strap for it... it can slide off of your lap sometimes.
