Galveston CLEAR See-Thru Body Vintage Style Electric Guitar Review

4/29/12- I purchased a used Galveston Stratocaster copy today with a SEE-THRU body and maple neck for $150 w/no case.

Asian-made Galveston guitars are typically made of lower quality materials, and mine is no exception. The clear body is cool, though, and I plan on mating it with a much nicer neck and electronics. If you're thinking of getting a Galveston guitar because it's a good guitar, I have no doubt you could do much better with many other brands on the market. Galveston is just like the plethora of "here today, gone tomorrow" electric guitars that we are inundated with every year. Like all these other imports. it's difficult to know who or where the importer is. One day, soon, Galveston will probably just vanish off the face of the Earth as a company or importer and never be seen again.

The body is made from PMMA (Poly (methyl methacrylate). PMMA is a transparent thermoplastic that has been sold under many names such as Lucite, Plexiglas, Acrylic Glass, Perspex, Optix, yada, yada, yada, This is the same clear thermoplastic that the old early 70's Dan Armstrong electric guitars were made of. They were ahead of their time with their interchangeable pickups and 2 octave (24 fret) necks. The Galveston single coil pups sound and look similar to Mexi Strat pups with their external magnet, so they can sound good if mated onto another guitar. The low point in the Galveston is the neck. The big and poorly crowned frets are very uneven and are lifting out, and the nut is made from plastic, not bone, GraphTech, or graphite. The tuners are die cast no-names and seem reasonable. The fretboard is made from wonder wood (I wonder what it is) and the truss rod almost works. Even the Galveston headstock logo is butt-ugly (did I mention the body is awesome).

I measured, and measured. I couldn't find a definitive resource detailing the specific interior dimensions (I won't even try to detail them myself). Point; the console was 34x22" (approx) and fit like a glove! No wiggle room whatsoever.

The case seemed a little high on the price, but other than that - I think it will (and better) last a long time from gig to gig. So. Good stuff. I would recommend this case if you're needing a little protection for your consoles (or whatever you feel like putting in the case!).
