Product Description
The GM-50 is a solid top, A-style mandolin replica of the most famous vintage mandolin. Affordably priced, you won't find a better tone for the buck. The maple back and sides help promote consistent volume. Each GM-50 undergoes a complete professional setup in the Gold Tone Factory in Florida. To increase tone we sand the bridge feet for perfect fit with the top. To assure the best playability and lowest action we level and polish frets, adjust the truss rod, oil the fingerboard, adjust slots in the nut and bridge, and electronically intonate the bridge. This attention to detail assures every GM-50 of excellent tone and the lowest possible string action!Gold Tone GM-50 A-Style Mandolin (Maple) Review
This mandolin produces a great sound and will do well playing traditional Irish music. The bridge has been precisely fitted and the finish is great. However I am unimpressed that Gold Tone has decided to use the cheapest hardware that they could find. The tuners appear to be a nickel version of the ones on my Epiphone MM-30 and are very hard to turn. Additionally some of the ferules do not sit perfectly flush with the top of the peg head.
I will replace the machine heads and the tailpiece with a better brand.
The cover for the truss rod has an extra hole drilled in it for no reason. I am disappointed that this was not noticed during the supposed inspection carried out by Goldtone.
I thought Gold Tone instruments were made in Korea but this one has a made in china sticker on it (not saying that's a bad thing)
Apart from the poor quality hardware this is a good mandolin.
