It's okay. Perfect for beginners if you're sure you really want to learn.

Truth is it was made hastily, inferior materials, for instance
The "free" gut strings (the main 3 strings) replacements were thicker or thinner in parts by 3, 4 fold in parts rendering them unusable and easy to break. No wonder they're free, right.
Also bow isn't the best quality but works.
Finishing craftsmanship is cheap, paint job not cleanest, looks dirty, but it's just smudges etc. It's playable, but it's a beginners model much like any guitar below $100. And hand-made so that must be considered to (as reason for imperfections).

Mind you however, the seller quickly addressed issues, he is a true businessman and sent replacements.

To say in so many words, that this may not be the best place to acquire a first class sarangi.
But if you're just starting it's not bad at all.

Sarangi sounds beautiful yet a difficult play.
This is the reason it has become rare even in India and displaced by similar instruments that are much easier like the dilruba or esraj.

I've acquired other instruments of Indian origin with much success from a little known vendor called
Exotic-hub, on eBay.

MAHARAJA Tun Wood Dilruba - Peacock End - Special Horse Hair Bow - With Pick-up (PDI-AJI) Review

My brother and I are learning Hindustani music together, and we decided to take somewhat of a risk by buying instruments through Amazon. First off, the Dilruba shipped from New Delhi, India, so it is authentic in that respect. It took just over a week to get here, with free shipping!

In regard to the instrument itself, it is much better quality than I expected considering the price. If you are a beginner to Dilruba or Hindustani music in general, I have a couple things to note on opposite sides of the spectrum. First off, this is a great beginners instrument. However, if you are a beginner, have fun setting this thing up. You will need some basic knowledge of the instrument and what you are getting yourself into, but that should go without saying. This is a pretty serious instrument.

We have our Dilruba currently setup with the frets tuned in Equal Temperament, which is not really how it is supposed to be setup. The notes in Hindustani music are tuned to pure intervals based on something called "Just Intonation". If you want to have your instrument setup properly, you need to do research on "Just Intonation" and see what ratios the frets are supposed to be tuned to. Otherwise you can tune the frets to the notes of a keyboard or guitar, but you should understand that a tuning system as such is not a traditional Hindustani Classical tuning. That's about all I can say about that... You can do your own homework.

The instrument comes with a case, a bow, rosin, and was very well packaged. We had a problem with a couple of the sympathetic strings and one of the pegs for the sympathetics, but it is an easy fix. Again, I can't complain for the price. We are getting some great sounds out of it after just a couple of days. We have some experience with the sitar, but this is really a whole other ball game. There is a guy Michael Wheeler on YouTube who gives online lessons, and also wrote the only book I could find on the instrument. We will be picking that up soon... Enjoy!

I must say that it was the name of the snare that caught my attention, even though I am Whitey. I would love cranking the top lugs to get that snap on this cat, but what is somewhat disconcerting to me is that in the photo...the one that represents the product...the one that the company is using to try to persuade me to buy their snare: THERE ARE MISSING PIECES! I looked at the photo and one of the top lugs is missing the nylon washer, the very thing that makes it easy to turn, tune, and flush with the rest. I do not know about any one else, but that kind of thing tends to lower my "buyer confidence"...It's kind of like engine trouble on a test drive.
