This is a great mid-range 7-string guitar. I purchased this guitar due to it was the only Ibanez 7- string that fit my needs; Fixed bridge, Two extended-bass housed pickups(Crucial if you are changing them out with EMG 7- string pickups without having to route the guitar), and 3-way switching. The archtop is not only amazing looking, but it also feels and sounds great. The stock pickups that come with this (IBZ) are active factory pickups that take 2 AA's to power. The guitar comes stock with an EQ switch (instead of 2nd tone knob) that cuts the mid-range out, making it sound like the pickups are trying to emulate EMG's, but fall very short. I opted for EMG pickups, and wanted more tonal control. Emg pickups come with a volume and a tone pot, so I had to route out the EQ switch hole slightly to make the tone pot shaft fit. But that was really no problem. You can also buy aftermarket battery housing with the same specs to replace the 2 AA's for one 9-volt batt. A couple of minor upgrades, and now this thing is a beast. The out-of-box tone has a jazz-like quality. I was going for metal though. I do believe the RGA-7 is the only Ibanez 7-string to use extended-bass-housed pickups (as stated, only really crucial if you are wanting to put in EMG's without routing the guitar). Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Ibanez RGA7 7-String Electric Guitar (Black)" are high quality item.
