I bought this for Christmas for my son who also plays piano and guitar. The instument sounds wonderful and he is really enjoying it. The price was very good for the quality of the instrument and the delivery was just two days after I placed the order during the busy week before Christmas.

Buyers of this instrument should be made aware that it is not "set-up" by the manufacturer. It is shipped with the bridge loose and the strings attached but also loose (because the bridge is not installed). My son had to take the instrument to a luthier to get it ready to play. The bridge that was shipped was defective (adjustment screws stripped) but the luthier was able to get it ready to play. I still need to call the manufacturer or Amazon to get a replacement bridge but there wasn't any guarantee papers or contact info with the instrument that would make the process an easy thing to do. If you are not able to personally set up a mandolin or do not have a professional luthier near you, don't buy this from Amazon.

I would also like to say that I was surprised at the quality of the packing. The Mandolin was shipped in a trapezoidal shaped cardboard box that was stuffed inside a regular Amazon "smily" shipping box. the inside box had no foam or any kind of protective material that you would expect with a fine instument like this. Our unit was not damaged but I think that we were lucky as I don't see how the packaging would have protected it against a drop, blow , or other serious stress. An upgrade option to ship the instrument in a case should be provided.

In spite of the above, this istrument looks and sounds great and has brought my son a lot of enjoyment.......so it gets a 4. If you can avoid the shipping risk and set up hassle by finding this instrument in a store that will set it up and sell you a case, I would go that way even if the total cost is slightly more.
