This case has perfect design and construction. It is designed by the German Gewa company and manufactured for them in China, but it has only a slight bit of the chemical Chinese plastic scent that plagues other import cases such as the Bellafina Maturo Viola Case, 15 inch. It is hard shell, but synthetic instead of wood, and it weighs in at about 7 lbs., whereas my Guardian CV-050 violin case wood and weighs about 10 lbs.The Gewa has some really nice fine points. The bow spinners are the best I've come across. They don't loosen up, and click nicely into place, and are covered with velvet to protect the violin. Moreover, they are located not over the violin but over the large internal compartment, so were anything to somehow pop off, it wouldn't hit the violin (I've read some horror stories of such happening with other cases). And here's the level of perfection built in this case: the plastic clips to hold the tips of the bows are flexible -- which minimizes the chance of snapping the bow stick if you accidentally pull the frog end toward you before sliding the bow out of the clips. And the clips are also velvet covered.
The blanket is sewn in so you don't have to set it down somewhere, nor worry about forgetting it. There is no neck strap, which might seem a risk, but things are so snug and the suspension so cushiony below, and on the top, pressing down on the neck, that the strap does not seem necessary.
Other wonderful fine points: string tube, hygrometer (it's raining outside now and it says 47% humidity while my Intelli Metronome & Tuner: IMT-301 with Temperature/Hygrometer Meter says 33% -- Wonder which is closer?), a Humistat™ (just fill with water) covered by the same velvet as the interior, very large internal compartment and two handy small compartments. The music pouch if full length on the outside. The latch clips when the case is closed, not requiring the labored stretching that my other cases take to latch it. It also comes with fully padded backpack straps with carabiner clips so you can take your violin up Half Dome.
I haven't tried driving a truck over it, but it seems rock solid.
