Product Description
1965 was the first full year of production for what was originally a student model, the Mustang. The model was destined for bigger things though, and was eventually seen slung over the shoulders of artists including David Byrne, John Frusciante, Kurt Cobain, Todd Rundgren and Adrian Belew to name only a few. This reissue Classic Series '65 Mustang has great color and cosmetic options, and many period-correct details (body wood, logos, etc.).Fender Classic Series Mustang, Rosewood Fingerboard, Daphne Blue Review
I have to say, this is by far the nicest guitar I have played on, and over 25 years, I've played on many, many guitars from a variety of price ranges up to guitars in the 2-3k price range. I've yet to play on one that just flowed the way this guitar does. The action is slick and quick, the frets are perfectly spaced, the tone is spot on, and the guitar itself is truly beautiful. An oddity of the Mustang is the tone switches, which are actually button style rather than the more popular switch design, but the advantage there is you dont accidentally switch tone mid song (which I have been known to do with my Les Paul, lol). The tremolo is nice, and the guitar doesnt lose its tuning because you use it often.I think the only way you wouldnt get maximum enjoyment from this guitar is if you play more like Jimmy Page or Jag from I Mother Earth, because part of their style is adjusting tone mid song, frequently, and in some cases almost constantly. You wont be able to do that with this guitar. Otherwise, this is a great choice at a very reasonable price. The only other possible concern I could think of is that this is Japanese made rather than American, but it seems like the Japanese luthiers have improved their craft over the years, and they are certainly far superior to the guitars coming out of Mexico, China, Korea, etc...not a concern for me personally, but noted in case this is important to you.
Enjoy!
