I own the EVH Wolfgang Special and DO NOT be fooled into believing that because this version is made in Japan that it is a lower quality instrument. The SAME pickups, the SAME Floyd Rose equipped with D-Tuna, the SAME neck, the SAME stainless steel frets, the SAME tuners, the SAME wood on the body. Two main differences are that the headstock is angled on the USA model (think Les Paul), and instead of a true maple top (arched), there is a flat, thinner veneer, so the tone is not quite as bright as the USA model.

But this is not to say that this guitar doesn't have tone. You'll find that out as soon as you plug it in. And man, does it PLAY!! The birdseye maple neck, left natural, and just oiled, is the fastest neck I've ever played. The stainless steel frets have a custom shop feel to them and they are remarkable. The sustain is incredible and the clarity of pickups, being able to hear every string individually, even with major distortion and cranked, is outstanding. The D-Tuna is standard on every Wolfgang, and allows you to go from standard tuning to drop D tuning in an instant, and back again, without affecting the tension of the other strings. It works flawlessly.

The EVH Wolfgang is a SERIOUS player at an affordable price. I tweaked my EQ a bit to bring out the mids (because of the lack of a maple top, but once you get it dialed in, it's everything you would expect it to be. This is pretty much what Eddie is using now, and it's clear his heart and soul are in this guitar. It's incredibly impressive.
