Product Description
The revolutionary Saber Bass SL Models are high performance, professional basses designed with the exclusive and patented Optical Pickup System, making the Saber's tone and playing experience unlike any other bass. The Saber SL is a superbly crafted instrument, featuring a solid alder body. The reinforced neck is a 34-inch scale three piece laminate of rock maple with a two octave rosewood fingerboard. The hardware is black chrome, and the bridge is a unique custom carbon/graphite monolith, an individual assembly for each string which also integrates the transducer system. The Saber Bass is a lightweight, comfortable design that is familiar in feel, revolutionary in concept, and inspiring to play. The Saber Bass will enable the player to create a highly detailed bass soundscape, composed of rich complex harmonics, vocal mids, and sparkling highs, built on a foundation of strong, bold, and focused low end response. Players will immediately recognize the perfectly balanced sound, clean string to string separation, precise note articulation, wide dynamic range, and excellent sustain. A powerful and versatile onboard EQ section gives the player easy access to the enhanced tonal palette, and superb touch sensitivity creates an intimate connection with the string and the instrument. Extreme low noise makes the Saber Bass an asset in the recording studio environment. Comes fully equipped with charger unit, setup tools, and a pro-quality gig bag.LightWave Saber Bass SL 5-String Fretted, UltraBlack Review
Well, got the Bass and have been playing it for a while now and have to say it's great. The sound is amazing and the look is cool - I get lots of complements on the bass. Also it has amazing sustain since there's no magnetic pickups to dampen the strings and the optical pickups are very sensitive which give you a great dynamic range with no buzz/hiss.The only (minor) complaints I can offer are due to all the electronics inside it much of the lower body is hollowed out so it isn't perfectly balanced with a strap on (i.e. the head wants to drop down a bit when you let it go). The up side of this, though, is it's a very light bass. Also I wouldn't mind a bevel cut where the right arm rests while playing to help with ergonomics.
I did have an issue initially with the battery life but I contacted LightWave and found them to be very helpful and after they sent me out a replacement battery I didn't have any more issues with the battery life. Compared with trying to deal with some big guitar companies (just try to get Steinberger Synapse parts from Gibson - I dare you) I found these guys very pleasant to deal with.
I'd definitely recommend checking out these basses. You'll love 'em....
