Its traditional style woodblock connection between the two shells is what Luis prefers.Meinl LC300NT-M Artist Series 6 3/4-Inch and 8-Inch Luis Conte Wood Bongos - Natural Review
I returned the one I bought from Amazon. It was very hard to tune.
I don't know if it was a returned item, which someone had returned without de-tuning; had sat around in Amazon's stock, fully tuned.
I subsequently ordered one through my local music store, which turned out to be a great bongo.
I play it almost daily.
One thing important to remember is that you may not want to buy a Bongo without playing it first.
I went to the local music store and played a few different bongos, which sounded much different than this one.
I like the sound of this bongo and the looks of it too.
So, I lucked out, even though I never played it before buying it.
This may not always be the case, shall we say? :)
Fair Disclosure: I am a novice bongocero.
