Two-Chambered Electro-Acoustic Guitar

Godin A6 Two-Chambered Electro-Acoustic Guitar (Ultra Black) Review

this is a great guitar. The acoustic is just amazing. i had an ovation idea and i had to buy a boss pedal to improve it's sound, but when i used this guitar for the first time, i knew right away that it was time for selling that pedal because i was not going to need it anymore. I love everything about her. It's sound, both of them are great. the desing is beautiful, the neck is comfortable, the bag it's a beauty, the equalizers are great. like i said, i'm in love

Now, i've been using this guitar for over 6 months now and i've found some issues that maybe you should know that will help you to make your decision. One is that the black color gets dirty really fast. finger prints, rest your arm over her... anything will be noticed like a mile away so you will have to clean it everytime. Other thing is with the electric mic. The thing is that maybe because of the fact that this is a semi hollow guitar, the distortion sounds not so great. This is a mor jazzy guitar so to speak, but not for any heavy rock style. The rest is all great.

Solid cedar tops, Wild cherry back and sides

Godin Guitars 036738 Seagull Entourage Natural Spruce CW QI Acoustic-Electric Guitar Review

I'm reviewing this Seagull Spruce top Entourage guitar as a guitarist moving from beginner to intermediate who has only been playing electric guitar.

Summary: great action, great nut size, solid wood top, amazing build quality, good projection and bright with good bass. TREMENDOUS value for under $500.

I was handed my first acoustic guitar when I was 12 and, while my family was rather musical, I chose not to get to into it. The strings hurt, I wanted to play electric and I lost interest quickly. Picking up the guitar as an adult has it's challenges, but it is an oasis in the sea of adult responsibilites. I love the sounds, volume and ease of playability in my electric guitar collection, but am tired of being attached to an amp to truly experience what I play. Started doing a ton of research on guitars and chose Seagull because of the feel of the neck, ease of transition from electric to acoustic and back. Most importantly was that hard to articulate "thing" that says..."this is the one". Throw in it was at the bottom of what I was looking to spend and it is awesome.

My guitar teacher says, "keep playing that acoustic and you will become a better guitarist...wait till you pick up your electric after a week with that guitar". Absolutely right. I was wondering if there was something wrong with the crown jewel of my guitar collection (my les paul)...It played crisper, notes rang truer, chords were easier to fret the first time I picked it up after playing my Seagull.

HIGHLIGHTS OF SEAGULL:
* Made in North America (Canada 'eh)
* unique wild cherry back and sides
* 1.72" nut a great size for any sized hand, makes for easy transition between electric and acoustic
* built in tuner/amp. tuner is used all the time to switch to alternate tunings
* neck is quick, but feels sturdy and "natural"
* satin polished body gives organic feel...not bright and glossy
* solid spruce top rings bright - many guitars around this price range are ALL laminated woods, even the top.
* dred body style gives the bass response when you want it
* can plug into any of my amps and keep up with any other instrument
* double binding to protect edges (love that aesthetic and have it on 2 of my electrics, so it fit into my collection perfectly)
* good D'addario strings came stock
* headstock shape is different than all other brands

Why spruce over cedar?

I was told by guitar guy that the guitar would "darken" over time since it was a solid wood top. since the back and sides are laminants, it might be more subtle, but it will still happen. I played the cedar version and the spruce version and came to enjoy the brighter response of the spruce. I really liked the sound of the cedar top version, but wouldn't want it any darker...If my spruce top gets to that sound over it's lifetime...then it is perfect. Also, it seems like there are a ton more cedar tops than spruce topped Entourages...so it is a little more unique even though spruce is used is so many guitars.

List of other brands I physically played before choosing this one. All in price range of $500-$1500...Takamine, Ovation, Ibanez, Fender, Taylor, Breedlove, Martin. I went to 3 guitar stores in my area over the course of 2 months. There were things I liked about all of the ones I played, but only a couple brought everything I wanted into one guitar. When I picked up this Entourage Spruce top, it screamed, "I'm the one". I was looking for the best guitar with the best materials for the best price that had something unique about it between $500-$1000. None of the Martins, Taylors or Fenders between $1000-$1500 justified the price. They were nice, but not $1000 more nice. The Takamine and the Ovation were darn close to being the one...but each had a small compromise. Seagull hit on all accounts and was less than $500!

If you are a beginner, playing on nicer equipment will take the "my guitar sucks" excuse away. If you are advanced and have lots of guitars...this is a great value for the sound and materials you get. If you are intermediate, this is a perfect place for you.

I prefer the electric guitar...but I've been playing this Seagull more than any of my others. Playing my favorite songs acoustically has opened up my appreciation for the music and both styles of guitar sound. When I do pick up my other guitars, they all play a little easier. I play mostly rock, blues rock... but this guitar handles any genre confidently.

I expect to only have one acoustic guitar and was willing to spend up to $1000 to get the perfect guitar for me and my wants/needs. This Seagull Entourage Spruce is it and less than $500. Highly recommend playing a bunch IN PERSON. The guitar you want will tell you it is the one.

If you ARE buying online without playing one first...It is tough to go wrong with this Seagull if you have the same wants/needs I did. Make sure you have it set up by a pro after you have it home for a while...my guitar tech buddy has set all my guitars up...from the $200 Ibanez to the $2000 Gibson...that is a critical step to making your guitar play the way you want it to.

Godin Guitars Session Series 036035 Electric Guitar, Black Burst SG MN Review

Had problem with MY amp at first, but once plugged in, this is really a great guitar. The number of sounds with the 5 way switch and HDR proprietary GODIN feature (which realy doubles the switching to 10 combinations)is awesome.
I've got to admit that Amazon had a really LOW price on for a day and I just happened to hit it right. In any event, this is a great guitar.

Solid Body 3-voice Electric Guitar

Godin LGXT Solid Body 3-Voice Electric Guitar (Trans Blue AA) Review

I am an experienced player of 26 years and I have played them all. I'm not even sure where to start on this review.

Let's start with the asthetics. This guitar is jaw dropping in beauty. I have the trans blue and people are just AMAZED at the shear beauty of it. It's beyond belief. Don't let the "AA" mislead you... sure it's not "AAA" but honestly, this thing is GORGIOUIS.. never seen anything better!

This Guitar is one of, I take that back, this guitar IS THE best guitar I have ever heard. Period. The acoustic simulation on this thing will leave you speechless.

The sustain, the play-ability, the way it stays in tune, all more than compare to high end custom shop Gibson Les Paul's. I'm not joking.

As for heavy metal and hard rock, OMG what a beast.

Blues? once again OMG !!!

If you're even just "thinking" about a top end guitar to buy, stop thinking. You have found it.

Buy it, seriously.. you won't be sorry!

This will be my last guitar.

Godin Session Electric Guitar - Vintage Burst SG RN Review

I liked the Godin Session so much that I trade my natural ash USA 1993 Strat for one straight up from the local music store. I don't know who makes their picups, but the single coils tone is superior to the stock fender USA pickups on my '93. It also has a Humbucking pickup in the bridge position that can be split to a single coil if you want a complete standard stra sound. I'm not sure if the pickups are actually louder than the fender, but they sure sound better, especially the neck pickup. I don't know how good their humbuckers are either. I know at one time, Godin had their pickups made by Seymor Duncan. I don't know who or where they are now made. They are certainly more than adequate.

The best part is the maple neck which is more comfortable and faster than the Stat's was. For anyone looking for a great electric solid body for short money, you can't go wrong with the Session. The tolerences seem tighter and the whole guitar seems to be better constucted than my Stat was. I highly recommend this guitar.

Product Description

Most banjo players agree that the ideal bluegrass banjo was the flathead built in very limited quantities during the 1930's. To meet this demand and to offer it at a price any player could afford, Saga Musical Instruments introduced the original GF-100 banjo in the early 1970's. Ever since these banjos were discontinued in the late 1980's due to costly maufacturing methods in Japan, they have continued to be topics of discussion for their legendary sound and value. It's 2005 and the new Gold Star GF-100W (Wreath)is back and better than ever before. Each instrument has that same great tone that banjos players like Tom Adams are looking for.

Gold Star Model GF-100W Pro Banjo with Wreath Inlays (5 String) Review

An amazing banjo for the price. The spec is as close as you'll get to a Gibson without paying Gibson prices. Excellent value.

  • It is a vintage replica of the most famous banjo ever played in bluegrass music.
  • All its parts are accurate reproductions of the original
  • Bound rosewood fingerboard

Product Description

The Bluegrass Special 250 Wide (BG-250FW) is a NEW for 2009 model that has all of the same great features found on the BG-250F model while offering a slightly wider fingerboard. The nut width is 1-5/16 (standard BG-250F is 1-3/16 ). We have had many requests over the years from players with larger hands (and fingers) to make a wider neck width under the nut, and we are now happy to include the BG-250FW as a standard model to the Gold Tone line. The Bluegrass Special 250 w/ Flange (BG-250F) is the first professional 5 string banjo in our line. It is a vintage replica of the most famous banjo ever played in bluegrass music. All its parts are accurate reproductions of the original. In addition, we have added a maple neck to brighten the tone compared to the original mahogany necks and added a straightline tailpiece to provide extra downward pressure on the bridge creating even more volume. Features also include a bound rosewood fingerboard, a die cast one piece flange and 13 bound mahogany resonator, the new GT Master planetary tuners, a 3-ply Canadian maple rim, flat-top 20-hole bell brass tone ring, and a complete setup here at the Gold Tone Factory in Florida. For a no frills, straight ahead bluegrass banjo, the BG-250F can not be beat for quality and tone.

Gold Tone BG-250 Bluegrass Special Banjo Wide (Five String, Vintage Brown) Review

At the time and since, I could not locate a better deal than what I received on Amazon. The only issue was banjo received with the neck loose. Other than that I could not be happier. It sounds great with great volume variation. I have had several players comment on the sound quality and brightness. It is heavy and not a stand up and play for very long banjo. The bell brass tone ring is the culprit but then again that provides the sound quality I and others appreciate. The slightly wider neck does not seem to be problem for me. But then again I am pretty much a beginner and this is now what I know best. I just had a local shop check the setup on the banjo and the two technicians/musicians did nothing other than adjust the tuning a bit for the evaluation. The tightening I did of the neck seems to have been the only setup issue. I start lessons after the first of the year. I hope to do the banjo justice in the future. For now its potential greatly exceeds my capabilities.
